Van Winkle Family Reserve Bourbon Distilled 1970 Bottled 1984 #879
Van Winkle Family Reserve Bourbon Distilled 1970 Bottled 1984 #879
Van Winkle Family Reserve Bourbon, Distilled 1970, Bottled 1984, Bottle #879 — a Stitzel-Weller era wheated bourbon from the Van Winkle family's independent bottling operation. Bottle #879 joins the other individually numbered 1970/1984 Van Winkle expressions in the Wooden Cork collection.
The 1970 distillate and 1984 bottling places this in the Van Winkle family's independent era — wheated bourbon from Stitzel-Weller stocks produced before the modern ORVW/Pappy Van Winkle program began. The Stitzel-Weller Distillery's wheated mashbill — the same mashbill that defines the modern Pappy Van Winkle lineup at Buffalo Trace — was produced under Van Winkle family oversight during this period.
